Abstract

The paper presents a new discussion of some economic aspects of the royal funerary domains and their role in the Old Kingdom economy, in light of recently discovered scenes coming from the causeway of Sahura at Abusir. These scenes contain long procession of royal funerary domains. The discovery of the scene recording a large number of Sahura’s funerary domains is of great importance for scholars, because the Old Kingdom pyramid complexes have yielded so far only a scarce evidence of the royal funerary domains. On one hand, this shows the urgent need of more extensive exploration of other pyramid complexes, while, on the other hand, it gives an opportunity to initiate new debates on the meaning of these domains, their function, durability and location, as well as their position within the system of the Old Kingdom economy.
