Abstract

Object friezes, a characteristic feature of the decoration of the coffins, sarcophagi and burial chambers from the late Old Kingdom until the end of the Middle Kingdom, appear – rather exceptionally – also later. Recently, such friezes were found in the large Late Period shaft tombs of Iufaa and Menekhibnekau at Abusir. In this paper, the object frieze found in the burial chamber of the Menekhibnekau’s tomb is presented and the possible reasons for its existence and meaning there are discussed.
