Abstract

In the autumn of 2008, the Egyptian mission of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) directed by Zahi Hawass begun a systematic excavations in the Gisr El Mudir area, southwest of the Step Pyramid of Djeser, and northeast of the Pyramid of Unas. The excavations proved that the site has a vast cemetery of middle class officials related to the first half of the Sixth Dynasty. One of the tombs discovered by the Egyptian mission was that of Noble of the King, the Companion of the House, Assistant Overseer of the Palace Attendants, Sole Companion [of the King] and Lector Priest, Ia-Maat-[n-Unas]. All tomb features – its architecture, decoration (both form and stylistics) as well as the texts choice and their minor epigraphic features – seem to point to the date of the tomb that should be placed right in the end of King Pepy I reign through the early years of King Pepy II.
